In the Light, Palestine-Israel: Rights to Ush Ghrab, Beit Sahour or Israeli settlers

As part of Nakba commemoration events throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the world activists from Bethlehem attempted to enter Ush Ghrab near Beit Sahour-Bethlehem. This region is an abandoned Israeli military base claimed by Palestinians and by settlers near the region. The Israeli army prevented passage by blocking, shoving, and igniting stun grenades which lightly injured several participants. The participants glued signs to the rocks and attempted to show them to the soldiers. The messages asserted Palestinian rights to this land and the illegality of settlements and occupation generally.

A permission was given by Israeli commander Col. Yaniv Alalouf for settlers to have ”presence” in Ush Ghrab. They painted old Jordanian army buildings and state that they will build a settlement here. The people of Beit Sahour reject any Israeli presence under any pretense including the so-called “rallies” or “education”. Settler presence is considered a crime against humanity per international law. Beit Sahour known for popular resistance will take measures if and when the next colonial settlers try to come to Ush Ghrab, Beit Sahour.
