Charles River-1: Watertown Dam and environs

Spring light, 2011

Winter sheds its coat of chill, ice, and snow
(in New England),
sap runs in maple trees,
forsythia blooms bright yellow,
willows punch out bright green leaflets.

Water races strong in
the Charles River—
ice melts, rain falls, earth soaks up nutrients.

And the light?
Varies, might be bright,
might be
shiny green,
might be dull gray,
might be sodden and heavy, rich blue
and lively.

We turn into summer, once
again,
as usual, as always.
For how long?
