Henry David Thoreau on light
Thoreau wrote, the light which puts out our eyes is darkness to us.
I write, how much suffering can we endure before we numb ourselves to the suffering of others?
Thoreau wrote, only that day dawns to which we are awake.
I write, how long before we awaken from the sleep induced by busyness and distraction?
Thoreau wrote, there is more day to dawn.
I write, the dawn is but postscript to the night. What then is the dusk?
Thoreau wrote, the sun is but a morning star.
And I write, many lights illuminate us. Are you one?
