Winter Light 4—Cape Ann: Rockport

The exercises for my students and me were all about what I now call "metaphotography," about photography (rather than purely graphical), how photography means.

Light radiant

Nearly equinox, days as long as
nights.
Half way to
summer, but first spring.

I remember this winter—
snow-clad, frigid ranging
to balmy. Blizzard one day,
early spring daffodils the next.

Oscillating, uncertain, equivocating.
The new normal?

And the Levant where I’ll
be in a few days.
Minimal winter there this year.
Today’s temperature in Gaza City
Reached nearly 100.
I will bask in
my beloved, harsh, diffused,
radiant Mediterranean light
