Boston's Emerald Necklace—part 2, Arnold Arboretum

An exploration of the urban park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead during the 1880s—in the second of two installments I show a breathtaking collection of trees from around the world, mostly bare for the winter.

Early morning at the Arboretum

One half hour before sunrise
the winter light is cold blue, the boney trees
solid against the mottled sky.

Morose, that look, some might think,
funereal, the trees dead.

No, merely resting, awaiting
the resurrection of spring.
