Deer Island in Boston Harbor, June 2006 : Photos by Skip Schiel

Deer Island, hosting no deer, and no longer an island, has been home to a prison, raw sewage pumping station, poor house, quarantine station, WW2 fort, and most egregiously, an incarceration center for American Indians in the late 1600s. Many have died here, 1000s more have suffered. Today: much change. 6/17/05 6:14 PM
