The main exercise or theme of the day was meaning-based photography, how to create meaning? The elements of symbol, synecdoche (part for whole), metaphor, and subliminal suggestion are pivotal. Here I should have shown examples. I described the split rock photo by Galen Rowell on the cover of mt light , how he may have made the photo with one purpose, chosen it for the cover for another, and then, after death, others found a hidden metaphor and used the photo for his and Barbara's funeral program cover.
